This is my first Blog, and the credit goes to my dear friend Mr. Kundan Pandey. I just signed up to comment on his blog and here i am, in a new world. It is fascinating and i should be thankful to Kundan so my first blog is my view on the movie 3 Idiots as a comment on Kundan's Blog.
In the Defence of Creativity!
Though i don’t claim to be a highly conversant fellow in cinema and literature but i am an average intelligent common man with some flare for creativity, and i trust myself.
The moment i finished watching “3-idiots” i was totally entertained by the movie. My reaction was partially influenced by the Lateral Thinking, John Holt & Multiple Intelligence Theory books which i am reading from past two months.
I must confess that you should rate the movie after coming out of the after-effect whether it is good or bad. I also don’t rely on the box office business because we cannot compare movies by the money they generate if we are talking about the art of cinema and value of the content. But i am not totally agreed with your views on the movie. I also found some lacunae in the movie but it is not so much as you mentioned. The reason it is huge hit lies somewhere in the areas what you mentioned but that is not all. It has a content which appeals and it has been presented like this for the first time. Some lecture type scenes and super dramas could have been avoided but the team of 3 idiots deserves appreciation. The message was clear and it was meant more for the mass, less for the critics (who are sometimes so honest to their job that they criticize just for the sake of it). And it did the job well. I don’t favor the movies that are richer in content & so complicated that the so called well informed intellectual viewer appreciates and the common man cannot dare to understand & express. Those classics have their place and i respect them but we need movies for the common man also.
Here i must clear that i also feel that 3-idiots could have been much better and there is always a great possibility of embedding a good message in a simple manner loved by all. But it doesn’t mean that we should condemn such a brilliant effort like this. I consider it as a sequel of TZP which was targeting school education and now 3 idiots has questioned our traditional approach to career choice & college education. And a simple middle class man can enjoy getting the tough message, it is enough.
Our educational system has to revive itself and focus on the Multiple Intelligences with unique character traits so that we can produce professionals who love their jobs not because they get money but because that is what they are meant to do. I don’t think it is an achievement that we are producing individuals who can adjust everywhere, in fact this is a tragedy for any young man who has to adjust & compromise with his talent. Call it Conditioning or Strategic Motivation, this is what happening from a long time and it should cease now. We had no choice but it doesn’t mean that we justify it by the jugglery of words; rather we should try to make a better pool of choices for the coming generation.
But I must appreciate you Dear Kundan that you can penetrate so deeply into this subject, the direction is a matter of disagreement but the effort is very impressive. But never forget that somebody said, “IF YOU DON'T THINK LIKE ME, THEN YOU ARE WRONG”.
I am still wondering !!!
Who knows !?!
